Why Take Supplements?

Posted by Jessica Nazarali on

Why take vitamin and mineral supplements at all?

Let’s face it, we don’t eat all the fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, sprouts, and super foods that we should to completely support the body, mind, and spirit in everything it needs to accomplish on a daily basis.

That is where vitamin and mineral supplements come in. Vitamins like B-complex, those including B3, B6, B9, B12, and even B17 come in the form of foods like eggs, or leafy greens, but to really support all the biological processes that B vitamins engage in, you would need to eat a whole lot of spinach – and that’s just one vitamin.

We also need vitamins like A, C, D, E, K, and minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, chromium, sulphur, cobalt, phosphorous, and manganese to support healthy bones, to balance the rhythm of our hearts and to make sure our cells function properly.

Vitamin C is the singular vitamin to prevent scurvy and even has shown to reduce the affects of radiation exposure from catastrophic events like the Fukushima disaster. Vitamin A, or beta-carotene is one of the top cancer-fighting vitamins. You can eat a whole lot of carrots everyday, or just take a quality supplement.

Along with a myriad of other responsibilities, both vitamins and minerals are key to anti-aging, weight-loss, energy production, fighting disease and even getting a good night’s sleep. Supplements are one of the easiest ways to ‘supplement’ an imperfect diet. We need all the dietary support we can get in today’s world.
